Valentine’s Day (not Veteran’s Day) is just a little more than a week away.  Maybe you’ve been hit by Cupid’s arrow this year, maybe you haven’t.  Maybe you’re sick of hearing about it.  Regardless, the key to a successful look lies in keeping it real and wearing something true to you.  Why?

  •  Because dressing for the sake of appearing trendy or achieving someone else’s idea of sexy is overrated.  And feeling overly self-conscious or constantly fussing over an outfit does not make for a fun evening.  I’m not saying wear mom jeans and an oversized sweatshirt because “it’s comfortable”–that combo says something more along the lines of “I’m hiding myself.”  (And you shouldn’t hide.)  But if tall platform heels aren’t your thing, that’s okay.  Wear flats.  If they are, super.  Rock them.  If you can pull off the slip dress trend, cool.  If it’s not your style, jumpsuits are cool too.
  • Because a date who wants you to be someone you are not is a date you can do without.  Authenticity is always the best choice.  And really, who wants to hang out with that guy all night?  Enough said.
  • And because you should ALWAYS dress for yourself.  Wear something that makes you feel beautiful, feminine, smart, sexy, strong, confident, fun, and empowered all at the same time.  You don’t have to sacrifice one for the other.

You do you.  And if you feel like it, try one of these combos…

Look #1 Black & White: layer a v-neck shirt under one with stripes, add a distressed jean and some neutral toned heels, keeping with a monochrome color scheme

Look #2 Red + Pink +Print: play with print and color with a knitted sweater, a bright coat or jacket, and fun pumps which all pop against a white jean

Look #3 Blushing Lace: a silk camisole layered under a lace top reaches another level of feminine with a blush skirt and red high heel

Look #4 Sweethearts & Bows: no one does bows better than Kate Spade–dainty sandals or heels pair well with a sweetheart fit-and-flare dress and a classic statement necklace
